Writing Templates for Pre writing, Montessori Language At Home

After the Metal Insets these pattern sheets are introduced in our Language Manual from Montessori Research & Development.  They provide copies of these patterns in the manual for you to photo copy and laminate. All of the patterns for the insets are also in the manual.
This is an amazing video Lecture of the Metal Insets with Margaret Homfray, student and colleague of Maria Montessori - collaborated with Dr. Montessori in the development of the Montessori reading scheme for English.

We revisit these every now and again for practice.  They recommend you copy them - laminate and use a clipboard with tracing paper.  I buy our tracing paper and clipboards from the dollar store.

This is simply your metal inset paper (paper cut 5 1/2" sq). I very simply made a grid on ours with a ruler and pen. I copied with my printer on legal size paper, and printed one and flipped the paper print to the other half. We did not go through many of these, it can take a while depending on the child to fill one if they so choose.

This is basically further refinement of pencil control.  The grid is 1/2" and the squares are filled with left to right strokes in different colours if they like, or small patterns in each square much like the insets.

After all of this wonderful inset and writing work is complete it can be made into a book.
MRD suggests using wallpaper. I may use scrapbook paper to make a cover.

The kids actually had fun with these, but they moved on fairly quickly. Ava wanted to revisit them later on though 💕
